In my previous video I showed how I make my charcoal for use in fireworks. A byproduct of my charcoal making process is wood gas, a mixture of many flammable gasses that can be used as fuel. Wood gas is simple to make, but requires some careful thought to collect and process to remove tar and other contaminants. My collection method could use some work, but I did end up with a reasonable quantity of purified gas by the end. Thanks to my Patreon supporters who have helped to keep this channel going! When Dave Conz first told me he stopped going to gas stations, I did not believe him. He was making biodiesel, in his back yard, and was running several cars and a truck on this home brew. In 2007, I followed him around with a video camera to capture the operation, and I edited the footage into this documentary. We miss you, Dave, but your legacy of creativity and innovation lives on.
Make your own backyard biodiesel. It's easy to make a small batch that will work in any diesel engine. You won't need any special equipment--an old juice bottle will serve as the "reactor" vessel--and on such a small scale, you can quickly refine your technique and perform further experiments.

From the desk: Joseph Then Hi, my name is Joseph and I am the creator of the product, "How to Make Biodiesel At Home". Now, let's look as some daunting facts... Fuel prices are on the rise, and the diesel price is going around $3! That's almost 300% increase over the last 3 years. You would realize that you are spending an increase amount of $100-$300 per month on fuel! So, if you are interested in learning how you can reduce your monthly fuel cost then this is the perfect resource for ...
REUPLOADED DUE TO SOUND ISSUE. Note: For a sugar wash, you probably don't need to sterilize anything. Just wash it with soap and water. The presence of other microbes can alter the taste if you plan to drink it. This is a very basic way that you can make your own DRINKABLE ethanol at home. The main premise of this video is to show just how simple and easy it is to ferment your own alcohol. In a future video, I will try to dispel some myths regarding homebrewing, such as the exaggerated risk of methanol poisoning. I will also demonstrate how easy and safe it can be to distill your own ethanol from the wash that you produce. In this video, I prepare a sugar wash (fermentation of sugar only). The process is similar to the preparation of wine or beer, but uses pure table sugar instead of a ...
Algae.Tec is a globally focused advanced renewable oil company. Algae.Tec is commercializing an enclosed modular high-yield algae to oil growth system at the Algae Development & Manufacturing Centre in Atlanta, Georgia. Algae.Tec is a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and on the ADR market in the USA. The Algae.Tec photo bio-reactors use water, sunlight and nutrients to grow algae that produces high-value sustainable fuels such as biodiesel and jet fuel. Facilities are being constructed at Nowra south of Sydney, Australia and the Holcim manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka. Roll-out plans include sites in China, Germany and USA.

Higher gasoline prices, dependence on foreign oil and concerns about global warming have placed biofuels in the spotlight. However, no one thinks that turning food crops into fuel is going to quench our thirst for fossil fuels. Not enough land is available. Explore innovative, interdisciplinary research efforts focused on discovering new sources of biofuels and efficient ways make them a feasible, long-term solution to our energy needs. Thank you Ron for teaching me how to make homemade biodiesel. Instructions for this recipe are at the end o the video. I forgot to include a shop of us draining the glycerin off of the appleseed. After the biodiesel process has run for several hours we turn off the heat and let the system cool down. When we drain off the glycerin from the bottom of the apple seed, about a gallon of so of black looking fluid is bleed off before the golden biodiesel begins to drain out. Once we see the biodiesel( golden colored) we divert it into our final process which is the drying stage. Here we cook the biodiesel until it reaches around 115 degrees f. At that point most of the methanol and water has evaporated off. You can let the biodiesel cool and then run it though a finishing filter.

As America takes steps to improve our energy security, home-grown fuel sources are more important that ever. One of the fuel sources of the future is algae, small aquatic organisms that convert sunlight into energy and store it in the form of oil. Scientists and engineers at the Energy Department and its national laboratories are researching the best strains of algae and developing the most efficient farming practices. This edition of Energy 101 shows how oil is extracted from algae and refined into sustainable biofuels. For more information on biofuels visit http://www.eere.energy.gov.

Using the used vegetable oil from our school cafeteria, we were able to produce biodiesel through base-catalyzed transesterification. We deduced the amount of biodiesel produced from 1 liter of used cooking oil, which enabled us to calculate the amount of biodiesel that can potentially be created every month using cooking oil from school. With this information, we then determined the amount of electricity that can be saved if we were to use biodiesel to produce electricity using a small-scale generator.
